Northern Thai MassageI practice Northern Thai (Lanna) style Thai massage. I have been living part of each year in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, since 2001. I speak enough Thai to be understood by the local people. I bought a house there in 2005. Most days in Chiang Mai I get 2 hours of Thai massage. Knowing the culture, and receiving this amount of Thai massage, has given me a deep, body centered knowledge of this ancient healing practice. My clients report real relief from lower, mid and upper back pain, along with greater flexibility and peace of mind. |
Thai massage works with its own energy system of sen lines, which relates to the Chinese acupuncture meridian system and to the yoga nadi (energy nerve) system.
Because the work is done within this energy system, the effects of the massage stay with the client for three days to a week or more. By contrast, the benefits of western massage are often gone within minutes of leaving the table.
This bodywork is unique in that it incorporates yoga stretches, which is why it is sometimes called "lazy man's yoga"!
Thai massage is especially helpful for anyone in a sedentary job, and for people who work out or are athletes and need more stretching to avoid injuries.
All the benefits of yoga are present in Thai massage. Once I began giving Thai massage in 2001, all my clients switched to it. I no longer offer western-style massage, because Thai massage is so much more effective.
